Dance as a Language and a Form of Thought Takes Centre Stage at Cultura26

We continue to foster dialogue around dance as an artistic language and its role in contemporary culture. On 21 April, Muriel Romero, Director of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, took part in the second day of Cultura26, created by Radio 3 and moderated by Natalia Sprenger, under the title. To Be Human Is to Dance, held at the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

The event brought together leading professionals from the field, including Eduardo Guerrero, Luz Arcas (choreographer of MASA), and Belén Martí Lluch, for a conversation centred on dance as a cultural and human form of expression. The discussion explored its place in today’s landscape, the creative processes that shape it, and its ability to generate new ways of thinking.

Throughout the session, the fundamentally human dimension of dance was highlighted, understood as a language that brings together emotion, awareness and collective experience. In this context, Muriel Romero emphasised the value of the body as a tool for thought and as a means of fostering empathy, underlining the importance of dance as a space for both individual and shared connection.

The conversation also addressed the current challenges facing the sector, including the influence of digital environments on creative processes, the need to preserve our capacity for imagination, and the structural difficulties that affect artists’ professional development.
