William Forsythe, known for his innovative approach to contemporary dance and his ability to challenge the conventions of classical ballet, premiered this choreography in 2018 based on the idea of a “playlist,” in which different styles and movements are used to create a dynamic and diverse collage.
Playlist stands out for its fusion of elements of classical and contemporary dance, showcasing the versatility and technical range of the dancers.
Forsythe is renowned for his ability to play with space and structure, and Playlist is no exception; the work features a rich interplay between movement and environment, as well as an exploration of timing and rhythm. Furthermore, in Playlist, Forsythe incorporates elements of improvisation, allowing the dancers to express their individuality within the choreography. This creates a unique experience in each performance, keeping the audience intrigued and engaged.
Music plays a crucial role in this work, as pieces are selected to complement and contrast the dancers’ movements, creating a dialogue between sound and body.
