The CND al the University
Collaboration project between the CND and the Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M)
We are CND, as a social project of the National Dance Company, whose objectives are to bring dance closer to the different groups of society, through training activities and creative projects.
In the 2025/26 season, we continued our collaboration with Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) and began it with the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) in order to create artistic research spaces with a didactic and interdisciplinary character.
Through collaboration with UC3M, we promote dance as a tool for holistic well-being, offering students a unique experience of connection with the body.
Understanding dance as a form of expression and connection with oneself and with others, we encourage physical, emotional, and community well-being. We engage with the university community by inviting students to explore and appreciate this discipline as part of their comprehensive education through the following actions:
1. Choreographic Creation Workshops
For five weeks, different groups of dancers from the CND, who have already been working on their own creations, share their creative processes with the university community. Through group dynamics and movement explorations, the student group is guided through the poetics of each group of dancers. After two more weeks, the group integrates all the sessions and selects materials to create their own dance piece. (Here you can watch the video of the first workshop of this project).
2. Showcase of Stage Work at the UC3M Auditorium
The showcase is carried out with the CND dancers and includes a discussion, in which students participating in the project, dancers, and the university audience can talk about the creative process, their concerns, what they experienced and felt, and their way of understanding dance after the experience.
The collaboration between the CND and UNIR arises from the convergence of interests between both institutions to preserve, disseminate, and make accessible the heritage of dance as an interdisciplinary language, a tool for inclusion and diversity.
The priority areas in which this cooperation is expected to focus are the promotion and advancement of knowledge and practice in the performing arts; the development of activities that encourage engagement with and promotion of dance within the university community; and the organization of talks, discussions, and other initiatives in areas of common interest.
The first activity resulting from this collaboration was the online training session ‘Dance and Interactive Technologies,’ based on the work ‘#INCUBATIO – Circumambulatio,’ which you can view at this link.
