Murcia 12 centuries with heart
For the Compañía Nacional de Danza, it is always a great pleasure to perform in Murcia, but this year, in which the whole city is preparing to celebrate the 12 centuries of its foundation and the city itself becomes an open-air museum, it is even more.
The Compañía Nacional de Danza participates in this historic anniversary, making Murcia a dynamic and participatory stage, offering two performances that combine tradition and modernity and highlight the passion, talent, and creativity of the current company led by Muriel Romero.
The Compañía Nacional de Danza feels very honored to inaugurate this commemoration and, on the occasion of this anniversary, will present at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 19, 2025, in one of the city’s most prominent urban spaces, the Plaza de la Catedral or Plaza Belluga, a showcase of the talent and creativity of the current Compañía Nacional de Danza directed by the Murcian Muriel Romero. It is an improvisation titled 12 Centuries with heart in homage to the city of Murcia, which will surprise and thrill attendees passing through this nerve center of the city.
In the afternoon, at 8:30 PM, at the Teatro Romea, the National Dance Company presents a program that includes Remansos, a piece choreographed by Nacho Duato based on three of the beautiful folk dances of Enrique Granados, three pas de deux from his most classic repertoire: Diana and Acteón, premiered in 1988 under the direction of Maya Plisétskaya, Tschaikovsky pas de deux, restaged by Joaquín De Luz, the previous director of the company, and The Dying Swan, by Ivanov, incorporated into the repertoire by José Carlos Martínez, during the gala tribute to Marius Petipa at the Niemeyer Center in Avilés in 2017. The evening will conclude with the piece Resonant Bodies created under the current direction of Muriel Romero.
